Every child deserves a space where they can learn, play, and thrive, and at Y Whittlesea we work collaboratively with local communities, families and children to provide a fair and inclusive environment for all children.

As we celebrate International Day of People with Disability on Sunday 3rd December, we want to provide an insight into the core of our commitment to inclusivity at our Early Learning Centres. We aim to make a difference in seven distinct ways:

Embracing Inclusivity: A Closer Look at Our Early Learning Centres

1. Accessible Play Spaces

At the core of our commitment is the belief that play knows no boundaries. Our sandpits and swings are thoughtfully designed to be accessible to every child, ensuring that the joy of play is shared by all.

2. Visual Aids and Accessibility

We have incorporated visual aids and positioned items within easy reach, allowing each child to engage with their surroundings independently. From colourful artwork to daily routine charts, our spaces are designed with intentionality to support inclusivity.

3. Wheelchair-Friendly Spaces

Navigating our centres should be easy for every child. Our indoor and outdoor environments are carefully crafted to be wheelchair-friendly, ensuring that every child can move freely and comfortably.

4. Auslan-Skilled Educators

Communication is key, and we are proud to have some team members at our centres, equipped with Auslan skills. This ensures effective communication and connection with children who use sign language, fostering an environment where every child’s voice is heard.

5. Sensory Experiences

We recognise and celebrate the diversity of sensory needs among our children. Our centres offer a variety of sensory experiences, catering to children with sensory sensitivities. In our inclusive environment, sensory play becomes a tool for learning and engagement for every child.

6. Professional Development for Educators

Our commitment to inclusivity extends to our educators. We believe that continuous learning is vital in providing the best support for our children. Our team undergoes regular professional development to stay informed and enhance their skills, ensuring they are well-equipped to support every child’s unique needs.

7. EYES Program

Our Early Years Engagement Support Program (EYES) assists children and families from our children’s services who may be eligible to receive early intervention or NDIS support into the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

In partnership with families and agencies we provide a holistic approach to education and care for children and deliver tailored inclusion support plans, and guide educators and families with strategies for the best interest of each child’s individual needs.

Our role is to work together with you to inform, provided guidance and to be a conduit for agencies, community services and families to reduce acceptance times into the NDIS and for the initial NDIS Plans in a safe and supportive way.

We invite you to join us in embracing inclusivity. Every child deserves a space that celebrates their individuality and supports their growth.

At our Early Learning Centres, we are dedicated to creating such a space — a space where diversity is celebrated, and every child is valued.

Thank you for being part of our journey towards a more inclusive future.
