Nursery

Our nursery rooms provide caring and secure environments to support our youngest children

Nursery

The early years are a remarkable period of growth, discovery and development. During this time, children begin to build relationships, communicate, explore their surroundings and develop the foundations for lifelong learning.

At our Y Early Learning Centres, our nursery program has been thoughtfully designed to support each child's individual journey through responsive relationships, play-based learning and engaging environments. Working in partnership with families, our experienced educators create meaningful opportunities for children to explore, discover and build confidence at their own pace, fostering a strong sense of belonging from the very beginning.

Welcome to our nursery

From their very first weeks, children are welcomed into an environment where they are known as individuals and encouraged to develop at their own pace. Our nursery program, available from six weeks of age, focuses on building strong relationships, fostering a sense of belonging and providing meaningful experiences that inspire curiosity, build confidence and support each child's learning and development. Guided by the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF), our experienced educators create meaningful opportunities for learning through play, daily routines and responsive interactions. Working in partnership with families, we provide consistency and continuity that helps each child build a strong foundation for lifelong learning.

Our learning environments

Our nursery rooms have been thoughtfully designed to create calm, engaging environments where children can investigate, discover and build confidence through play. Our experienced educators take the time to understand each child's individual routines, cues and emerging interests, creating meaningful interactions that build trust and confidence. Purposefully designed indoor and outdoor learning environments, natural play spaces, sensory experiences and age-appropriate resources encourage curiosity, problem-solving and new discoveries every day. Dedicated sleep spaces, inviting outdoor environments and thoughtfully planned experiences provide opportunities for children to learn, grow and engage throughout the day, while supporting each child's wellbeing, development and emerging independence.

What happens each day

No two children are the same, which is why every day in our nursery is shaped around each child's individual routine, interests and stage of development. Throughout the day, children engage in a variety of play-based experiences including music, movement, sensory exploration, outdoor play, stories and creative discovery. Everyday routines, including meals, rest and personal care, are recognised as valuable opportunities for connection, communication and learning. By combining responsive interactions with intentional teaching, our educators create an environment where children develop confidence, independence and a genuine sense of belonging as they begin their early learning journey.

A smooth transition

Starting early learning is an exciting milestone, and we're committed to making the transition a positive experience for both children and families. Our orientation process is tailored to each child and family, providing opportunities to visit the nursery, meet our educators, explore the learning environment and gradually become familiar with new routines. We encourage families to share information about their child's routines, preferences and comfort strategies so we can create a familiar and reassuring experience from day one. Working in partnership with families, we maintain open communication throughout your child's journey, sharing regular updates about their learning, development and everyday experiences while building a strong foundation for a confident and positive start.
